The Australian NGO Psychosocial staff support network meets usually in Melbourne 1-2 times a year and welcomes a range of NGO managers, HR personnel, project officers and team leaders to the meetings.
At the meetings, we raise and discuss issues of policy and practice in psychosocial support of both national and international staff; share current developments and practices in the area and work towards advocating for psychosocial issues to be kept high on the regional, national and organizational humanitarian aid agendas.
Meetings are more formal than informal but sometimes the group focuses on specific topics. For example, in November 2005 we conducted a synopsis of psychosocial staff practices observed during the tsunami relief and recovery periods.
