The Antares Foundation Inc. (Australia) has recently established the position of a Pacific Staff Support Coordinator located in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The role aims to build upon the outcomes of the Antares 2008 Pacific Psychosocial Forum held in Vanuatu in October 2008.
It also aims to continue to support the strengthening of staff support efforts and systems in aid and development agencies in Vanuatu and the broader Pacific Region.
The Pacific Staff Support Coordinator will liaise closely and consult with relevant local staff who play a key role in staff support and mental health programs within Pacific based NGOs, government, and communities and will support existing and developing networks and individual agency initiatives.
The Pacific Staff Support Coordinator can be engaged across the Pacific region to:
- conduct a needs based assessment (in consultation with key local stakeholders) to determine ongoing agency support needs in the area of staff support relevant to the local and Pacific context;
- provide training and facilitation in systems and elements of staff support and stress management and other relevant topics as identified by needs assessment and consultation;
- support the development and adaptation of culturally appropriate resources, tools and learning materials relevant to psychosocial approaches to staff support;
- liaise with key local and regional contacts to help support and strengthen relevant networks and raise psychosocial awareness of staff support issues within the region;
- provide capacity building support, advice, and mentoring to individuals and/or organisations in relation to applying psychosocial approaches to staff support initiatives and
- offer consultancy services and/or training in areas such as screening, briefing, monitoring and debriefing and the development of organizational policies for stress mitigation.
